A "Cologne meeting" took place during the visit of SPD faction leader Dr. Rolf Mützenich to the medium-sized company of VDMA President Carl Martin Welcker. Thus the delegate from the Cologne III constituency was able to come by bike to find out about current industrial policy issues directly from the machine tool manufacturer located on the banks of the Rhine. The focus was on the bleak economic outlook, which, among other things, put the issue of short-time working compensation on the agenda. Welcker made it clear that what matters here now is that the design is as unbureaucratic as possible. The fact that Mützenich comes from a foreign policy background was demonstrated by the very well-founded exchange on trade policy and developments in the USA and China. Both agreed that strengthening Europe must also be central from an economic policy perspective.
